Facing a Nuclear War Environment

The nuclear war danger continues, a real threat to the global warming environment for sure.
Progress for the People of the World; Break with Obama, Ensure the New Year!
Progress for the people of the world means Glass Steagall or else... the system is bankrupt.  The next bail out is the bail in of the banks... that is why they are building the cereal boxes on Central Park South, NYC... to put the rich money that could be confiscated under Dodd Frank..

This with the junk bond collapse and energy company collapse... as in oil shale worker suicides all over Western Canada, the Dakotas, down into Texas...

As for the war drive, some people want to make money on the war (see below) but we have to stop the danger of nuclear war:

Failing to Win Hearts and Minds, Replacing Soldiers With Saints

Several years ago, the military came up with a new philosophy on how to handle the threats of terrorism and insurgency we were seeing in Iraq and Afghanistan. The idea was that if we could appeal to the population emotionally and intellectually, we would be able to reduce the recruitment capabilities of the insurgent forces. This philosophy also called for a change in our Rules of Engagement (ROE), or the criteria Soldiers use in order to decide if they should shoot, or hold their fire. With the shift in ROE, our Soldiers ability to defend themselves was greatly inhibited and it became harder to do what they were trained to do.
Is using Soldiers the best way to change hearts and minds? Throughout the Pentagon, I am sure there are masses that sit in their comfortable offices and say yes, but there is a problem with this. Soldiers represent some of the best people I ever had the pleasure of meeting and leading. The problem is, changing hearts and minds is not highlighted in their training. A soldier's primary function is to close the distance, engage, and destroy the enemies of the United States in close combat. This is one point I will return to shortly.
Another point I want to make is about the many theories as to why the Islamic State grew so rapidly in the Middle East. One theory (I support) is our lack of presence in the area. I am not saying that we need to be there forever, but we left a void when we pulled out. Whenever there is a void, it will be filled with something. The United States retracted its presence in daily function throughout the world. Other countries, like Russia, are beginning to fill that void for leadership.
My simple theory is this, if a leadership presence is removed, another one will take that position, for better or worse. Iraq is a good example. We removed Saddam Hussein from power. He may not have been a good person, but he was a very strong ruler. Since his removal, there has been great difficulty in replacing him with a governing body that could effectively govern and protect the populace. We spent several years building a government, similar to ours, in a place that really has no concept of what our constitution means.
So, now I have two points for consideration. We are trying to "change the hearts and minds" with soldiers, and we are trying to fundamentally change a society by using weak leadership. I personally don't see this being very successful in the short term. In addition to this, the lack of leadership is not only resulting in upheaval in societies, but it is allowing it to spread throughout the world.
"Hearts and Minds." This is the focus on how to change the feeling towards the United States. I do agree with this philosophy, but we are using the wrong people. Soldiers are to be used when all other diplomatic efforts fail. Soldiers are very good at controlling a situation and dominating landscape. They are also some of the best of us, meaning they are human with compassionate souls. They will do what they can for women, children, and those who do not fight. Soldiers are not good at actually changing people's minds. If we want hearts and minds to change, we must change what is driving their decision making process. In other words, remove one thing, and replace it with another.
The only group of people I know can do this are missionaries. By using missionaries, we can replace a theology of submission with one of love. We then must build economic relations with these troubled countries. There is, however, a problem with sending missionaries and businessmen to these areas of the world. These are some of the most dangerous places for a westerner to go. So, what do we do?
I learned quite a bit about myself and how to lead in my time in the military. Planning is key to anything that the military does. In planning, if we take and honest assessment of ourselves and the environment we are going to, we can make solid plans to go anywhere and handle any situation. This means not only knowing the risks that are present, but using mitigating factors to reduce the level of risk to an acceptable factor. The same can be said about missionaries and businessmen. With honest, practical self-assessments and knowing the environment you are traveling to, people can go anywhere. The key to all of this is the risk assessment process. Know your risks, plan accordingly, and go out and change the world.
