The Japanese environmentalists are freaking out because the new government shift toward reopening the 50 or more nuclear power plants there and scrapping the juicy subsidies of wind and solar power in Japan.
The basic economics of solar and wind power is that they don't work. Or they work at most 15-20% of the time, versus coal plants working 50-60% of the time and nuclear plants working 80-100% of the time. Global warming is nice and dandy, but we want some cooling in the summer and warming in the winter in our houses.
