Is it worth cutting down on meat? What is the environmental rational? The idea goes way back. As is well known, animals are higher on the food chain. A chicken or a cow will eat 4 or 5 lbs of grain, in order to produce one pound of meat. So the argument has always been that we could make more food available this way.
It may be hard to believe, but the livestock industry contributes more greenhouse gases into the environment than all forms of transportation combined. In fact, animal consumption is responsible for one-fifth of global greenhouse gas emissions! I guess this is the old fart danger again.
I want my meat and potatoes. Not giving it up ever.
